I am writing to call your attention to an incident that occurred on December 31st, 2013 when several Vietnamese human rights activists were harassed, beaten, and then arrested by security policemen near Hanoi (Please see link below & attached documents for details).
As you are well aware, Vietnam recently signed the 1984 United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhumane, or Degrading Treatment or Punishment Treaty and was elected to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights in November 2013. Unfortunately, human rights abuses continue to be widespread in Vietnam and are occurring at an alarming rate. The December 31st incident is just one of many examples of police brutality in Vietnam and highlights the common use of physical assault against human rights activists. I beg you to open a full investigation and have an appropiate response to stop these blatant violations of human rights in Vietnam.
Thank you for your time and consideration toward this very important matter.
